INTRODUCTION
More than just a music venue, the CELLAR BAR continues to provide a collective space for Blackburn’s creative talent, musicians and 24 hour party people, a platform for them to show off their diversity, hook up and have the best of times all in sanctuary from the bleak and wet streets of Blackburn.

Firmly on the map as an important cultural hub in the North West, the Grade 2 listed Georgian building (1739) showcases some of the best un-signed live bands around from varying genres and usually free of charge. The heart of Blackburn’s ‘scene’, there’s no other place like it. Nowhere in town comes close.

The bar continues to offer a handsome selection of continental bottled lagers and draught, with the real ale, wine and a range of spirits that offers some of the best selection in town.

When the sun actually does shine, the outdoor courtyard cannot be rivalled, a unique space enabling the facilitation of; independent music festivals, barbeques and special outdoor events.

ANSWERS
Is there a cheap hotel near to the Cellar Bar?

Not too many tourists feel the need to visit Blackburn, there’s no beach and the weather is shit. Those that do visit, tend to come to watch their choice football team be entertained by Blackburn Rovers. Therefore the most reasonable priced accommodation can be found situated around the Ewood Park ground. Other B&B lodgings can be found through Google.

How does my band get on at the Cellar Bar?

First off get some of your music to our Events Team or the venue, either by mail or by handing a CD in over the bar to one of our friendly members of staff. Emails with small MP3s or links to hosted tracks are cool too. All the details you need are on the contact page, but make sure you include your contact details including a phone number and email address. If you prefer to, you can also reach us through Myspace, but PLEASE include alternative contact details in your message – we all know too well that the ‘place for friends’ frequently goes down or does crazy sh*t, don’t leave us out on a limb, send us an email and contact telephone number.

What stage times do bands play at the Cellar Bar?

Our events usually feature 3 bands (with the odd exception for special events); on a typical night access is made available to bands to unload from around 6pm. Sound checks start at 7pm. Doors open to the general public around 7.30 or 8pm. The first act is on around 9pm, the second band 10pm and the third 11pm. We don’t usually have headliners; running orders depend on the bands circumstances; travel arrangements, and requests, etc. We try our best to structure our events to maximise crowd retention and attendance, so that all bands get to play to the best possible crowd.

Can I put on my own event at the Cellar Bar?

Whatever your event, film night or album launch, birthday or just simply the monthly meeting of your club members, the venue is available to hire with several provisos i.e. whether the date is free, what kind of event you want to put on, etc. We of course like events that will improve the overall, programme of events in any given month. We are happy to hire out the venue any night of the week except Friday and Saturday. We can provide additional assistance, meet your catering needs as well as source and supply extra audio, visual or technical equipment. If you would like to make a booking, discuss any ideas or just view the venue, get in contact.

How long will it take to get a show at the Cellar Bar?

We receive a lot of performance requests from bands, far more than we can possibly book. It takes a while to listen to them all and then various factors come into play when filling our schedule for events, these may affect the time it takes to get a show. Factors include whether we enjoy what you do and your location. The Cellar Bar generally book 2 months in advance so bear this in mind when scheduling your shows.

Once my band have secured a show at the Cellar Bar, what gear do we need to bring?

We have a nice house PA, monitors, mics, stands and a stage! Bands need to bring their instruments, backline amps and drum breakables (cymbals, snare, stands and pedals). We have a house drum-kit that is available for use, however if you need to bring a separate kit this is cool. Any ‘amp share’ should be arranged directly with the other bands, most are willing (if not we will see what we can do). We do not have any amps or instruments available for hire. A full venue spec is available on the ‘venue’ section of the site.

How soon can I play at other venues either side of a show at the Cellar Bar?

There’s no rule set in stone, but we recommend that you don’t play at other venues in the Blackburn area for 21 days either side of your booking at the Cellar Bar. This will help keep your shows fresh and makes each one seem more like an event and helps build your fanbase, overplaying has the reverse effect. There are some lazy ass local promoters out there who will try to book you on the strength of your billing at one of our events, we’ve no qualms if you choose to accept their offer of a gig, just try to space it enough time away from your slot at the Cellar Bar.

Back to FAQs...

How much notice do we need to give for cancelation of a gig?

When cancelling a show we expect at the very least 14 days notice and a realistic reason. We’ve become savvy to bullsh’t, don’t just blame your drummer. Failure to give the venue just reason in good time will result in pissed off promoters and could jeopardise your opportunities for future bookings. This may seem harsh, but it does grate.

Back to FAQs...

Can we bring our own sound engineer to do our sound?

Yes, we always have fully trained engineers on site who do a great job on sound, they’ll happily facilitate your engineer.

Back to FAQs...

What's the parking and loading like?

Not a problem. There are sufficient free parking bays outside the venue. Access to the venue though, is down several steps.

Back to FAQs...

How old do I have to be to get into the Cellar Bar, will I need ID?

As the Cellar Bar is a licensed venue, we can only legally admit over 18’s. If we think you look young you will be asked to produce photographic ID, we accept; Passports and Driving Licences. IDs must feature your date of birth, otherwise it’s pretty pointless.

Back to FAQs...

What time does the Cellar Bar stay open till?

Friday and Saturday we are open from 7pm, curfew is 3am. We have plans to have some midweek events soon, so when these take place we’ll keep you informed.

Back to FAQs...

Do covers/tribute bands play at the Cellar Bar?

No. The Cellar Bar is all about playing original material.

Back to FAQs...

How can I DJ at the Cellar Bar?

Get a mix together and drop it into the bar on CD in an envelope labelled F.A.O. Sam Flanagan.

Back to FAQs...

Does the Cellar Bar operate a flyer deal for bands?

Do we f*ck. We don’t operate a ‘pay-to-play’ scheme like those implemented and in operation in city venues. We believe that these are bad, bad, bad and do nothing for bands; we want bands to be able to play to the best possible crowd. Usually we operate a free door (unless special event) to maximise attendance and enjoyment of your music.
